Red Queen

Recently, I got back into reading and borrowed a book from one of my best friends sisters called Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard.


Let me just say; this book was absolutely great.

It gives a whole different perspective on equality, supernatural abilities, and 'gods'. The back story has the typical arrogant 'better than thou' monarchy, with the story's protagonist coming from next to nothing, but even still, it's so much more unique than that.

It kind of makes me mad that the next one in the RQ series won't be coming out until next year, and the one after that will make its debut in 2017!

The story is full of twists and turns and 100% real human emotion and thought. Aveyard did a spectacular job with her first book, and even though it was just shy of 400 pages, it flew by in a second.

Highly recommended for this summer's reads.

Wattpad Story!

Hey guys, first I just want to say, I've got a tutorial that I'll be posting up tomorrow for you guys.
Until then, I've been working on a story for Wattpad, and I'm providing the link here. It's my first one so you'll have to excuse any rookie mistakes but I hope you enjoy it!

My Mandatory Summer Reading List

Every summer, during the students' well deserved vacation time, my school gives us a list of three books that we must read over the summer...and do book reports on. Wow.

Anyway, as my third year at my school, this is obviously my third time writing book reports over the summer. But as I stated in the review post for The Fault in Our Stars, my friends and I influenced this year's book choices slightly. Luckily, juniors and seniors got these three easy books: The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, The Help by Kathryn Stockett, and The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks.
(Anyone else notice these titles all have 'the' in them?)

As you know, I've already read TFIOS and enjoyed it profusely. But...as much as I love reading, I'm also very lazy. And since it's already the middle of July basically and these reports are due the first day of school September 2nd...It's highly unlikely that I'm going to go out and buy the other two books and read them.

Especially since I have other books I'm reading right now.

And also especially because I've seen the movies for both books.

Yeah, I know it's cheating, but eh. It's good cheating. I might even be able to find them on Sparknotes.

But this will give me a chance to watch some movies on the couch with snacks without being referred to as 'not doing anything important'. So it's a win -win.

Another book that I know my sophomore friend has to read (she has a different list) is The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. So we've all got some popular, movie made books to read it seems. (And that title once again starts with 'The'!)

Dorothy Must Die

 

 

Back in April, I was out at the mall with some of my friends on a 'school field trip', and a few of us made our way into my favorite book store Barnes & Noble. My classmate found a stand that was holding these free Prepublication Excerpts and picked one up.

 

Well, needless to say, he only picked it up because it was free, so he handed it over to me.

 

What originally caught my eye on the cover of the book was that the author had the same name as me; Danielle. I was already pumped.

 

But then my attention was drawn to the title and cover picture shown above. Hmmm...It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that this book was a violent twist on the beloved story of Dorothy and The Wizard of Oz.

 

 

Me being me, of course, I always love it when someone takes an old story or legend and adds a new twist and life to it. Which is exactly why I saw the movies for Snow White and the Huntsman, Hansel and Gretel, and Maleficent.

 

And it is also why I plan to read this book by Danielle Paige.

 

The excerpt book I got gives you the first four chapters of the book as a preview, as well as an exclusive bonus chapter. The actual book itself though was released April 1st of this year.

 

Here is the synopsis verbatim from the back of the book excerpt so you can see if you're interested and pick it up:

 

There's a new girl from Kansas in Oz...

New Book! Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Today I went out to my favorite book store, Barnes & Noble and scanned the Teen Romance and Fiction aisle.

And this is what caught my eye.

Apparently, author Sarah Maas first based her book off of Cinderella, but it morphed into something different and more....Assassin like.

I'm excited to start reading, but I have a few other books in line before this one that I have to finish. (And possibly review!) But once I finish this one, which is the first in a series by the same title, I will definitely review it so you guys can read it and hopefully love it.

Book Review: The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

 

 

Recently, I finished reading The Fault in Our Stars by author John Green. I had been borrowing the book from one of my girlfriends.

I'll admit, this was one of those times that I saw a trailer for an interesting looking movie, found out it was based on a book, and then decided to rush to read the book before I saw the film. Needless to say, if it hadn't been for the movie remake, I would have never known a thing about this book.

But luckily, I was able to find it and read it within a few days. I have to say, from page 1, John Green captivated me with his prototypal writing style. He incorporated a plethora of SAT words and metaphors into his work, and really helped his readers understand a whole different side to life. I especially loved Augustus Waters (didn't we all?) and his metaphoric use of cigarettes.

A lot of the time now a days, I find myself using quotes from this amazing book. "My thoughts are stars I cannot fathom into constellations" has to be my favorite quote from any piece of literature I have read thus far. The Fault in Our Stars is happy, sad, romantic, disconcerting and lovable all at the same time. It's easily made it's way into my top ten favorite books list (more like the top five!).

My friends and I talked to the principal and English teacher at my school and managed to get TFIOS drafted into the three books that we have to read and report about during the summer. That's a pretty big deal, considering the list is usually for largely famous and important stories, such as The Scarlet Letter or The Help.

As we speak, I am currently looking into purchasing and reading some of John Green's other works, such as Will Grayson, Will Grayson and Looking For Alaska.

Overall, I'd have to give this book a 9 / 10. (Would've been a perfect 10, but I almost cried for Augustus Waters....)
